The Black River Grange minute book contains photocopies of the minutes taken at Black River Grange meetings from the Grange's first meeting on 1874 March 24 until 1877. In addition to meeting notes, the pages also include doodles, scribbles, and math problems. Some ledger pages are also present. Established in 1874, the Black River Grange is the Sampson County chapter of the North Carolina State Grange, a grassroots civic organization dedicated to the improvement of farm and rural living.
